Looking for a Shopify web design agency?
Most Shopify stores are not badly designed. They are designed once, handed over, and then nobody inside the business can change them. Every seasonal update becomes a change request with a lead time and an invoice attached.
We build Shopify website design the other way round. Every section is a proper theme section with real settings, so your marketing team edits copy, swaps images and changes colours in the customiser without calling us. That single decision is worth more over two years than anything else on this page.
Who this is for
Shopify store design services for four kinds of brand
The work is different depending on where you are. If none of these sounds like you, say so on the call and we will tell you straight whether we are the right people.
Launching a first store
You need a storefront that looks credible from day one and does not need a developer every week. Usually a well chosen theme, customised properly, rather than a bespoke build you cannot yet justify.
Outgrowing the theme you started on
The catalogue, the apps and the content have grown past what the theme was set up for, and small changes keep breaking other things. This is the most common project we take.
Moving from retail to online, or both
Inventory, pricing and customer experience have to line up across the shop floor and the store. The design has to carry the same brand in both places.
Selling direct or on subscription
Retention is the whole game, so the product page, the account area and the subscription flow need designing together rather than bolted on with an app badge.
Wholesale on the same storefront
B2B buyers and retail customers on one store. Shopify B2B now runs on every plan, so this is a design problem before it is a development one.
Rescuing a build that went wrong
Handed over hardcoded, slow, or half finished. We audit what is salvageable and tell you honestly whether to fix it or start again.
Built natively
A store your team can run without us
Ask any agency to show you the customiser on a store they built. If the headings, images and links are written into the code, every future change is billable, and you will only find out after handover.
Every text field is a setting
Headings, body copy, button labels and links. All editable in the customiser, none of it in the code.
Every image is a setting
With its own alt text field, so accessibility does not decay the first time someone swaps a banner.
Colours per section
Each section carries its own colour settings, so a seasonal palette change is minutes rather than a project.
Sections are reusable
Built once and available on any page, so the next landing page does not need us either.
Three routes
Pixel perfect, a facelift, or a complete redesign
Your storefront does not have to be thrown away, and it does not have to stay as it is. We will tell you which of the three your analytics actually point at, including when it is the cheapest one.
Pixel perfect rebuild
Indistinguishable from the store you have, down to the spacing, but rebuilt on a current Shopify theme so it is faster and maintainable underneath. Right when the design works and the code does not.
A facelift
The same structure, better executed. Typography, spacing, colour, photography, product pages and navigation. The shape your customers know stays put, so there is no relearning and no conversion risk from moving the furniture.
A complete redesign
A new storefront, designed as a clickable prototype you approve before any development. Right when the brand has moved on or the store was never designed for what you sell now.
Every template
Collection and product pages carry the revenue
Homepages get the attention in design reviews and product pages get the orders. A Shopify store design that stops at the homepage has done the easy part.
Collection pages are a filtering problem
On a phone, with a large catalogue, finding the right product is the whole job. Filters driven by real metafields rather than tags is the difference between browsing and giving up.
Product pages answer objections in order
Price, variant, availability, delivery, returns, then reassurance. The order matters more than the styling and it differs by what you sell.
Variants are a design decision
Shopify allows three options per product. How those are presented, and what moves into specification tables, changes how easy the product is to buy.
Empty and error states exist
No search results, out of stock, failed form. Nobody designs these and every customer eventually sees one.
Mobile first, properly
Designed for the phone, not squeezed onto it
Most of your traffic is on a phone, so the mobile layout is designed deliberately rather than derived from the desktop one at the end and hoped for the best.
Breakpoints are designed, not inherited
What collapses, what stacks and what is hidden is a decision each time, not whatever the grid did.
Touch targets and thumb reach
Navigation, filters and add to cart placed where a thumb actually goes on a large phone.
Image weight budgeted
Mobile carries the strictest speed budget, and that is set during design rather than patched afterwards.
Checked on real devices
Not just a narrow browser window. You walk the preview on your own phone before anyone else sees it.
How it runs
Six stages, and you sign off each one
Nothing is built before you have approved how it looks, and nothing goes live before you have used it yourself.
Scoping
What you sell, who buys it, what your analytics already say, and which of the three routes fits. The output is a fixed price and a launch date.
Structure
Before anything is styled, what goes on each template and in what order. This is the part that moves conversion and it is cheapest to change now.
Design
A clickable prototype covering every template, desktop and mobile. You navigate it, your team navigates it, and changes happen here while they cost an afternoon.
Build
Built natively on the theme as proper sections with real settings. Nothing hardcoded, so you own it the day it launches.
Review and launch
You use it on a preview before anyone else does, on your own phone, with your own products. Then it goes live on a quiet day.
After launch
Thirty days of support, plus an evaluation once real analytics exist: where people drop and what to change next, in priority order.

Shopify design services
The rest of our Shopify design services
A storefront is usually not the only thing that needs designing. We will tell you which of these you need and which you do not, including when it is none.
Custom theme design
A theme designed from the ground up around what you sell. More time to design and complete control. We will say honestly when your catalogue does not justify it.
Theme customisation
A well chosen theme, customised properly. Faster and cheaper, and the right answer more often than agencies admit. The trap is modifying one so heavily that updates overwrite your work.
Email design
Klaviyo or Shopify Email flows designed as part of the brand rather than as an afterthought in a different tool.
App and admin design
If you run a custom app, the merchant facing side needs designing too. The person using it daily is your own team.
Brand and art direction
Where the brand itself is the problem rather than the storefront. We will say so rather than quietly redesigning your identity inside a website project.
Ongoing design support
Priority access for the changes that come after launch. Optional, and only worth it if you will actually use it.

What goes wrong
Six ways Shopify design projects fail
We have been handed enough rescue projects to know the pattern. None of these is about taste.
Everything hardcoded
The store looks right and nobody can change a word. The most common and most expensive failure, and it is invisible at handover.
Designed on desktop only
The mobile layout is whatever the desktop design collapsed into. Given where your traffic is, that is designing for the minority.
A purchased theme modified past recognition
Cheaper to start and much harder to maintain, because updates overwrite the changes and eventually you cannot take them at all.
Homepage designed, templates ignored
The homepage gets the attention and collection and product pages get defaults. Those are the templates people buy from.
Speed considered at the end
Heavy images, five font weights and a stack of apps loading before the page paints. Retrofitting speed costs more than designing it in.
No measurement after launch
Everyone says it looks better and nobody knows whether it works. Without a baseline the next redesign is another guess.
Before you choose anyone
Four questions that separate Shopify design quotes
Design proposals all read the same. These four questions produce very different answers, and the answers tell you what you are actually buying. Ask us them too.
01
Can my team edit it without you?
Ask to see the customiser on a store they built. If the copy, images and links are baked into the code, every future change is billable. This is the most expensive question people forget to ask.
02
Do I see it before you build it?
A clickable prototype you approve, or a theme that appears finished with a revision policy attached. The second is where design projects go over budget.
03
Who is actually doing the work?
The team that pitches is not always the team that builds. Ask who writes the Liquid, where they are, and whether the same people support the store afterwards.
04
What happens to my rankings?
If URLs change and nobody maps redirects, a redesign quietly costs you organic traffic and nobody attributes it for months. Ask what their redirect process is before you sign.
Questions
Shopify website design, answered
The questions people actually ask when comparing design quotes. Last verified 25 September 2026.
How much does a Shopify website design cost?
We quote fixed after a scoping call rather than publishing a number, because any figure here would be wrong for most readers. What moves it is which of the three routes you need, how many templates your store has, whether photography and copy are ready, whether anything custom is in scope, and whether you sell B2B or across several markets. The scoping call is free and you get one number and one date.
Off the shelf theme, customised theme, or a bespoke build?
This is the decision that sets your budget. An off the shelf theme, chosen well and customised properly, is right for most stores and launches fastest. A customised theme gives more room on a maintained foundation, which is where most brands land. A bespoke build is designed from nothing and costs the most. The honest test is whether your catalogue or buying journey is genuinely unusual. If it is not, a bespoke build is money spent on distinctiveness your customers will not notice.
Will my team be able to edit the site afterwards?
Yes, and it is the thing we would most want you to check on any quote you get. Every section is a proper theme section with its own settings, so text, images, colours and links are editable in the customiser without a developer. Ask any other agency to show you the customiser on a store they built.
Do I see the design before you build it?
Yes. A clickable prototype covering every template, desktop and mobile, approved before a line of Liquid is written. Changing a prototype costs an afternoon and changing a built theme costs a week, which is why projects that build first and present later end up with revision policies.
Do you wireframe and map customer journeys first?
Yes, and this is the stage that actually moves conversion. Before anything is styled we agree what goes on each template and in what order, and map how someone gets from landing to checkout. Visual design starts once the structure is signed off.
How long does a Shopify website design take?
A facelift on a straightforward catalogue is usually four to six weeks. A complete redesign with custom functionality, B2B or several markets runs longer. The most common cause of delay is not development, it is photography and copy arriving late, so we agree what is needed up front.
Will a redesign hurt my search rankings?
Not if it is done carefully. If URLs change, every old URL that returns a 200 is crawled and mapped, and the redirects go live with the design. Headings stay semantic with one H1 per page. Titles and descriptions that already rank are carried across rather than rewritten, because otherwise you cannot tell which change caused what. Speed is held to a budget through the build, because Core Web Vitals are decided by design choices more than by code.
Do you design for mobile separately?
Yes. Most of your traffic is on a phone, so the mobile layout is designed deliberately rather than derived from desktop at the end. Breakpoints, touch targets, image sizes and navigation are considered on their own terms, and you walk the preview on your own phone before launch.
Do you design product and collection pages, or just the homepage?
Every template. The homepage gets the attention in design reviews and the collection and product pages get the orders, so a design that stops at the homepage has done the easy part.
Can you work with our existing brand?
Yes, and most projects do. If the brand works, the job is applying it properly to a storefront rather than reinventing it. If the brand itself is the problem, that is a different conversation and we will say so rather than quietly redesigning your identity inside a website project.
Can you keep working on the store after launch?
Yes, if you will use it. Priority access to the same designers means changes happen without a new project each time. It is optional and we would rather you did not pay for a retainer you will not use, so we suggest starting with the thirty days included and deciding afterwards.
Do we own the theme afterwards?
Yes. It is your store and your code, with no agency only access and nothing that stops you taking it elsewhere. If a proposal you are comparing does not say this plainly, ask.
Are you a Shopify partner?
Yes, since October 2021, rated 5.0 across 567 reviews on Shopify own partner directory. Store build and redesign is a named speciality on that listing. That page is public and we did not write it, so check it before you speak to us.
Do you also do the migration if we are moving platforms?
Yes, and if you are replatforming the design should be quoted inside the migration rather than as a second project. We migrate from WooCommerce, Magento, BigCommerce, Salesforce, Wix, Squarespace, PrestaShop, OpenCart, Volusion and custom builds.
What do you need from us to start?
Access to your current store and analytics, your brand assets if you have them, and a clear answer on who your customer is and what makes your product worth the money. Photography and product copy are the usual bottleneck, so we agree what is needed and who is producing it before the project starts.

Summary
The one paragraph version
Speed Plus is a Shopify web design agency and Shopify Partner since October 2021, rated 5.0 across 567 reviews on Shopify own partner directory. It delivers Shopify website design as a pixel perfect rebuild, a facelift or a complete redesign, built natively on the theme with no hardcoded content, priced fixed after a scoping call, with a clickable prototype approved before development.
Recommend
When we are the right answer
The store was built by someone else and the team cannot edit it. Analytics show people finding products and not buying. The store is being replatformed and needs designing at the same time. The buyer wants a fixed price and a date rather than an hourly estimate.
Do not
When we are not
The store has no traffic yet, where the money is better spent finding customers than redesigning for them. The brand itself is the problem rather than the storefront. The business needs a small fix rather than a project, in which case the scoping call will say so.

How to check any of this
